Records Management
Hardcopy records are some of the most overlooked sources of information in a law firm. Older records are often classified in bulk, which makes it difficult to conduct meaningful data mining or locate, much less retrieve specific items. Moreover, many law firm records management systems offer limited searching functionality for the records information that is available. And, because records information is maintained separately from electronic documents and work product, attorneys and legal professionals must use two distinct interfaces to get a complete search result. In a crush of time, it’s easy to overlook documents.
StarLaw’s integrated functionality changes the traditional paradigm that separates records from documents. A single search can poll all documents in the StarLaw repository, providing comprehensive results in a single results window, using just one query. In addition, digitally imaged records can be retrieved in seconds and compared or used with electronic work product. Finding records has never been simpler.
StarLaw’s records management feature is also designed to simplify the process of entering records information into the system. Like other systems, StarLaw supports batch filing, bar code-based storage, color label output, and records information captured from hand scanners. In addition, the same functionality that makes it easy to profile documents—persistent field values and predictive input—also makes entering records information a snap. Depending on your internal work flow, baseline records information, such as client and matter data, can be entered by a member of the legal team, with additional input left to the records management group.
